From Biely Potok to Podsuchá with Children (along Cyklokorytnička)
A trail running along the Revúca River, along a section of the former railway line from Ružomberok to Korytnica.
Start and destination: parking lot in front of Motel “Vlčí Dvor”
Trail: 4 km (+ 4 km back)
Marking: red bike trail, educational bike trail “Cyklokorytnička”
Surface: asphalt road, paved road
Difficulty level: mildly rising, almost horizontal road
Safety: The trail leads along a separate, off-road bike trail, and the final section leads along a paved road (a vehicle with foresters might pass by sporadically). The entire trail crosses first-class road E77 at two points. Pay increased attention there and do not let the kids cross the street alone. The trail is also crossed by side roads and woodland paths, therefore pay increased attention at those places too.
Trail:
We start our trail by main road E77, at the parking lot by Motel “Vlčí Dvor”. Connecting to the road across the Revúca River is an asphalt trail for cyclists, which is going to lead us along the Revúca River. The trail leads us past the small fields belonging to the family houses. After passing the family houses, we are going to cross main road E77. Get off your bike here and wait until it is safe to cross the road. On the other side of the road, there is a military park with educational panels about defence fortifications during the Slovak National Uprising. The trail leads us past the fish farming ponds, after which there are gates on the Revúca River, on the right. At the place where the trail takes a left turn away from the main road, the trail surface changes to a paved road. There are several roads at this place, therefore pay increased attention and let the marking of the trail guide you. Continue past the camping site with a shelter and a fireplace. A little bit further, we can make our trip more attractive by visiting “Brankovský” waterfall, which does not have a large flow rate, but it is the highest waterfall of the Low Tatras. We can get there along the green-marked hiking trail, along which we should reach the waterfall in about 25 minutes on foot (without bicycles). We continue further to the crossing of main road E77. Here we get off the bikes again and wait until the road is clear. However, we do not cross the road but we go to the right and cross the bridge over the Revúca River, to the parking lot. Here we cross the street at the marked pedestrian crossing and we arrive at the end of our trip at shepherd’s hut “Koliba Bodega”, where we can buy refreshments. We use the same route to get back. After we have returned from the hike, we can use the services of the restaurant located at the beginning of the trail.
Notes:
– At the beginning of the trail, there is a restaurant and a cheese shop with benches.
– At the initial section of the trail, there is a possibility of taking a detour to natural monument “Jazierske” travertines along the green-marked bike trail.
– The trail runs along a section of the educational bike trail called “Cyklokorytnička” with educational panels about the former railway line which used to run along this trail.
– In the fish farming ponds, you can purchase live or frozen fish from local farmers.
– In order to get to the gates on the Revúca River, which regulate the water flow to the old power plant, you need to cross the main road at the place without a pedestrian crossing.
– You can use the camping area with fireplaces and benches to rest, and to roast your own sausages or bacon.
– On the detour to the waterfall, remember to take into account extra time for returning to the trail.
– There is a memorial in front of “Koliba Bodega”.
– The trail continues further through Liptovská Osada and all the way to the former spa in Korytnica. Therefore, if you haven’t had enough yet, you can continue further.
– The more experienced cyclists may also continue along a difficult, blue bike trail, in the direction to Smrekovica, where they can use the restaurant services of the local hotel.
– The trail enters in the territory of the Great Fatra National Park and the Low Tatras National Park, therefore you must observe their rules for the visitors.
– The channel and the surroundings of the Revúca River are categorized as rare habitats and are protected by the law on nature protection. That includes moors and travertine terraces with springs.
