The town of Podšíp is situated in the vicinity of the town of Stankovany, below Šíp Peak, approximately 18 km away from the centre of Ružomberok. There is a green-marked hiking trail leading to Podšíp from Stankovany.

Podšíp is a picturesque, romantic looking town with several wooden houses, isolated from civilization. For instance, it has never been connected to electricity. In addition to the beautiful scenery, it also offers lovely views of the Small Fatra ridge and of the cliffs of Šíp. Its first reference in written documents comes from 1808. You can almost feel this place breathing with a typical atmosphere of mountainous Liptov and it makes an impression of being frozen in time for many years.

This settlement of wooden houses, which is situated on a meadow below the peak of “Zadný Šíp” at an altitude of 795 m, used to have permanent residents at one time, but the last ones left in the 1950s. Before that, there used to be about 10 families living here in rather difficult conditions. Today, the wooden houses are used by cabin owners. They are privately owned, therefore you should respect privacy of the owners.

Podšíp also has a spring, so if you have used up your water supply, you can refill your bottles here.
