Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross at Calvary in Ružomberok
The Roman-Catholic Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is situated at the top of Ružomberok’s Calvary, approximately 1 km away from the centre of the town.
Its consecration in 1859 was attended by over 5000 people. The church is approximately 16 metres long and 8 metres wide, with a charming small tower. Inside the church, you can find relief plastic artworks by F. Gibalu and wall paintings by M. Klimčák. There are three metal crosses in front of the church, which have replaced the original wooden ones. They hold a mass in the church in September on the feast day of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. Leading to the church is a path lined with 14 chapels of the way of the cross.
