In comparison with restaurants, sheep farms (“salaš”) and shepherd’s huts (“koliba”) offer first and foremost the atmosphere of the Slovak cuisine in combination with a cosy feeling created by the smell of wood and the warmth of the open fire. Apart from the food, shepherd’s huts also offer some history of the region in the form of folk costumes worn by the staff, decorations or interior accessories. Most of traditional shepherd’s huts also offer something extra for the visitors. Sale of cheese, home-made baked goods or local products have always been a part of shepherd’s huts. In a shepherd’s hut, they always think about your experience and the experience of your kids, and almost every shepherd’s hut offers something to see after a good meal, or an activity to enjoy with your kids.
