The Roman-Catholic church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is situated in the town of Hubová, approximately 12 km away from the centre of Ružomberok.

The church, standing on an elevated area in the centre of the town, was built in 1815, and it underwent a large-scale reconstruction at the beginning of the 20th century. The entrance section was added to the church in 1994. An interesting fact is that prior to the construction of this church, there used to be a wooden church standing in this place, but it got severely damaged in a fire.

The tower of this church is a dominant architectural element of the town. It has four bells.

The main feature of the church is the altar of the Holy Cross, which was made by Tyrolean craftsmen. Its main part is the sanctuary, which consists of two parts. By the sides, there are figures of angels at both ends. Above the altar, there is a sculptural group of Calvary, where we can see statues of crucified Jesus, his mother Mary and apostle John. Behind the statue of Jesus, there is a painting depicting Jerusalem. By the sides of the altar, we might notice another couple of statues, portraying Mary’s mother Anne and apostle Andrew. Below the statues, there are reliefs depicting Jesus Christ. Here we can see, for example, Jesus with the apostles in the garden of Gethsemane, or Jesus carrying the cross on the way to Golgotha. And finally, at the top of the altar, there is an imitation of the image of the face of Jesus called Veil of. St. Veronica. In front of the altar, there is a baptistery, the original one.

Also noteworthy in the church are the paintings by well-known painter Jozef Hanula. Among those, visitors might notice, for example, the painting on the ceiling above the altar, with a depiction of Golgotha and the tomb of Jesus hewed in the rock. Other paintings depict Moses with a bronze snake among the Israelites, apostles Peter and Paul, scenes of the Last Judgement and the Exaltation of the Cross, but also the local church and cemetery. The stained-glass windows are also interesting. They depict St. Cyril and Methodius. They are works by academic painter Mikuláš Klimčák. This mosaic was gifted to the church to commemorate the pilgrimage of the Liptov ensemble to Rome in 1969, on the occasion of the anniversary of St. Cyril’s death. There is also a painting of St. Rochus, which was transferred here from an out-of-use roadside cholera chapel. Portrayed in the painting, behind the Saint, is the oldest visual outline of the town.

Another original piece is the Classicistic pulpit from the beginning of the 19th century. The entrance door is decorated with a relief of the Sacrifice of Isaac. In the bottom part, there is Isaac, kneeling with his hands clasped, to his right, there is Isaac’s father Abraham with a sword in his hand, and to his left, there is an altar with a fireplace and burning fire. Above Abraham, there is an angel sitting on the clouds, holding Abraham’s hand with the sword to stop him from sacrificing his son.

The church also features a way of the cross. An interesting fact is that in the 1970’s, a steel spiral staircase was added to the church, transferred here from the Community Centre in Ružomberok.

Next to the church, there is a building of a former church school.
