Because of their mountain terrain, the surroundings of Ružomberok are the perfect place for skiing and ski mountaineering. Situated right above the town are the ski runs of Malino Brdo, one of the largest ski resorts in Slovakia. Only a few kilometres to the south of the centre, you can ski in the mountainous landscape of Smrekovica, which has an abundant amount of natural snow every year.  In the close surroundings, there are many small ski slopes, which, however, depend on natural snow. There are other large ski resorts situated not too far away from Ružomberok, such as Jasná, Donovaly, Kubínska Hoľa, Martinské Hole, and other smaller resorts, which are situated within a one-hour drive.
